The story of my January, 2018 two week adventure to Japan. Joining a tour out of Australia (Opulent Journeys) geared for fiber people. Arrived late evening from Narita airport to our first hotel in Tokyo. Took a walk around the neighborhood with a couple of ladies from Great Britain to look for something identifiable to eat!
First issue (besides leaving my phone on the bus ticket counter at the airport) was figuring out how to turn on and off the lights in the room. I finally realized that the lights won't come on unless you deposit your room key in this little box! Ingenious!
There was also a learning curve for the use of the toilet. Complicated, but very nice!
The bathroom itself was lovely, with a sliding door - very Japanese!
So, outside we went. We are in the big city now!
The taxis here are very shiny! The driver is on the wrong side of the car, and they drive on the wrong side of the street. Taxi drivers usually wear white gloves, and suits, and their seat backs have lace covers on them.
We managed to find a lovely little place to eat a bowl of noodles and pork and vegetables, and I struggled to catch pieces with my chopsticks. Walked around town a bit more, enjoying being in Tokyo!
It was a regular Tuesday evening, but many of the ladies were dressed up, and we saw one in a kimono!. It was cold, and we were tired, so we wrapped up our arrival day and looked forward to tomorrow, our first full day on the tour! And the tour guide was still at the airport awaiting others, and was able to retrieve my phone and bring it to me. Disaster avoided as it was a good hour drive from airport to hotel!
